Frequent Asked Questions
How long does a counselling session last?
Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
If you feel you'd benefit from an extended session, we can discuss this together and tailor the time to your needs.

How many sessions will I need?
There’s no set number of sessions. We’ll use our first session to understand your goals and needs, and can agree on a flexible plan.
Some clients prefer short-term support, while others benefit from ongoing sessions. The space is yours for as long as it supports you.

Why Counselling?
People seek counselling for many reasons - navigating transitions, processing emotions, improving relationships, or simply having a space to feel heard. As a registered counsellor, I work collaboratively with clients across life stages, using tools and strategies tailored to their unique experiences.
While I don’t provide diagnoses, I support you in understanding your relationship to any diagnosed or undiagnosed concerns.
I engage in regular clinical supervision and professional development to ensure that I’m offering informed, ethical, and current support to my clients.

Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You’re welcome to book directly.
If you plan to claim through a private health fund, I recommend checking their specific requirements first.

Can I claim through Medicare or private health funds?
Counselling is not covered by Medicare. However, some private health funds do offer rebates for sessions with registered counsellors. I suggest contacting your fund to confirm your eligibility.
Also, some workplaces offer Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) or reimbursement for mental health support. It's worth speaking with your HR department. I provide receipts after each session for any claims you may make.
Do you see NDIS clients?
Yes, I work with both Self-Managed and Plan-Managed NDIS participants under the Improved Daily Living category.
My sessions are tailored to support emotional regulation, social skills, self-esteem, and communication. I also offer written progress reports and collaborate with families, support coordinators, and schools as needed.

What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee.
Your appointment is reserved just for you, and short notice changes can be difficult to fill.
I appreciate your understanding.

Confidentiality
The content of the sessions will be treated as highly confidential.
I may need to discuss my work with my supervisor and for that, I will only use your first name but not any other identifying details of you.

However, there are a few circumstances in which I may be required to break confidentiality:

• If I consider you to be at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else
• If your counselling records have been requested by a court of law
• If another party or agency has requested your information, and you have agreed and provided your written consent to this.
